Community Street Planters

Cnr Cross and Polson St - Castlecliff , Whanganui

A community effort
All materials and time to install these planters were donated. Thanks to: Downer's, Macdonald Concrete Whanganui, Whanganui Resource Recovery Centre, Mitre 10 Whanganui, Resene Colorshop Whanganui, Easy Earth, Castlecliff Coast Care, Progress Castlecliff (and donations received via the Progress Castlecliff Give-a-little page). Thank you to all the volunteers who helped fill and paint the planters. Rachel Stephenson (EVE Outdoor Design) and Colin Gates (Progress Castlecliff) co-ordinated and carried out all works.

Planters were installed to brighten this otherwise grey corner. A pedestrian zone, with a school on each adjoining street the goal was to soften the area and to slow the traffic. Local children designed and painted the planters. Thank you Creative Communities (Whanganui District Council and Creative New Zealand) for funding the workshops, and RESENE Colourshop Whanganui for donating the paint. Thanks to all the children and the parents who made our street look so beautiful. Low care grasses, Cabbage trees, Flax, Toitoi and succulents were planted.
