Cactus and Succulent Garden

Pascoe Vale Girls College - Pascoe Vale, Melbourne Victoria

Working with teacher Mr Anthony Freeman and Year 11 VCAL Vocational Education students we took a previously concrete chip area and transformed it into a dramatic, low-maintenance Cactus and Succulent garden. This area now provides a beautiful retreat with interest and flowering throughout the year.
Works began in March 2017. With thanks to the support of Principal Ms Kay Peddle.

“…..Thank you for all your work at Pascoe Vale Girls College. Your vision, expertise, resourcefulness and passion, above all, has been very much appreciated and has contributed so much to student and staff wellbeing. Thank you also for your work with our VCAL students who learnt so much from you in the creation of the Succulent garden. I always enjoyed our walks around the grounds and energy and enthusiasm about everything you were doing. It has been a privilege for us to have you share your amazing talents with us…” Kay Peddle (Principal)

Before Works

Works with VCAL Students

We began with design questions; Who will use the space? What are the needs of the space? Where are the obvious pathways through the space?
Students chose their area of interest; Design, Construction, Horticulture or Documentation to ensure all aspects of the project were met.

Eve Team at work

Thanks to Bryony, Enrico and Roozbeh for the great teamwork and for compacting the metal and scoria to create a soft and even walking surface.
